Opponents of Kinder Morgan or the Coastal Gaslink and the Kinder Morgan expansion don’t care if the economy loses $100 billion or a $10 trillion or how much government revenues suffer in derailing the oil and gas industry – but the rest of us should.

Sure spending a $1000 on a whale watching cruise and calling a tsunami awareness exercise is outrageous but why the lack of outrage over equally absurd and questionable spending of our tax dollars?

Can you think of any endeavor in society that has a lower standard of integrity than politics? What most fail to realize is that there are major social and financial consequences to the erosion of trust in government.

The Prime Minister says the SNC Lavalin scandal is really all about jobs – because the federal government is all about “jobs.”  I don’t like the government’s chance of selling that to workers in the oil industry, real estate or pipeline construction.

It should be no surprise that when governments throw money at a company or industry jobs can be protected or created but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t have done far more if spent elsewhere – including leaving it in taxpayers’ pockets.
