Canada’s Most Powerful Business People

1 wiseman#1 Mark Wiseman Age 43, President & CEO, CPP Investment Board

Mark Wiseman manages a portfolio worth $183 billion. That’s more than the annual GDP of the Ukraine, the largest pot of investable money in Canada. His decisions affect the fate of 18 million Canadians, many of whom are counting on him for their retirement incomes. His organization runs one of the most visible and high-profile private equity funds in the world—industry observers put it in the same class as those run by legendary buyout giants Kohlberg, Kravis Roberts and Blackstone. (Don’t talk to Wiseman about stakes smaller than $75 million—they aren’t worth his time.)

Preparing Our Children For Employment

Michael Mike Campbell image Youth unemployment is a serious problem, which merits integrating employment related issues into the curriculum of public schools.

Declining Levels of Confidence in Government….

Michael Mike Campbell image Is the Biggest Impetus for Change.

Michael focuses on a “Peggy Noonan” article that he finds both insightful & thought provoking. (this is his 6:40 minute May 24th Money Talks Commentary).

Recently she had an observation about the launch of ObamaCare that reflects a much broader trend in Economics & Finance. In quotes:

“the leaders of our Government have not felt throughout the process that they had any responsibility to be honest & forthcoming about the major aspects of the program. From its exact nature through to its exact cost” – Peggy Noonan

Michael thinks she is absolutely correct. He also thinks the same is true in Canada. Do we really expect when we see an ad sponsored by the Conservatives, NDP, the Liberals or the Bloc to be honest or forthcoming?

The same for Public Sector ads that push for more wages & benefits. We not only don’t have any expectation that they are going to be honest, but there also isn’t any evidence that we in the public want it any other way…….
