U.S. stock-index futures fell, indicating that the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index may decline for the first time in three days, as investors awaited data that might show an increase in U.S. jobless claims.
Alcoa Inc. slipped 0.7 percent in early New York trading. EBay Inc. added 2.9 percent after activist investor Carl Icahn proposed spinning off the company’s PayPal unit. Netflix Inc. (NFLX) surged 17 percent in pre-market New York trading.
S&P 500 (SPX) futures expiring in March fell 0.3 percent to 1,832.6 at 7:31 a.m. in New York. Most stocks rose yesterday, as investors assessed earnings from companies including Norfolk Southern Corp., Coach Inc. and International Business Machines Corp. Contracts on the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 60 points, or 0.4 percent, to 16,257 today.
